CCNSG Safety Passport Training
Who Should Attend ?
The aim of the CCNSG Safety Passport Scheme is to ensure a basic knowledge of
health and safety for all site personnel to enable them, after appropriate site induction, to work on site more safely with
lower risk themselves and others.
The Training and Assessment
The two- day training programme covers ten modules: ·
Introduction to Health and Safety
Law and Permits to Work · Safe Working Practices and Scaffolding ·
Safe Access and Egress ·
Accident and First Aid Procedures · Fire Precautions and Procedures ·
COSHH and Personal Protective
Equipment · Manual Handling · Noise ·
Working with Cranes and Heavy
Equipment · Excavations
The course itself involves a significant amount of trainee participation. Most contractors’
personnel know something about the topics before they arrive and lively discussions are often the order of the day. In presenting
the course, the trainers talk with trainees rather than at them, giving continuous message “If you can’t do it
safely, don’t do it”. The award of the Safety Passport is subject to the candidate successfully
completing a 100 question multiple- choice test paper, with the question content and level set by the participating client
safety experts on the CCNSG. Successful
candidates receive a plasticized photographic pass that is valid for three years. To assist the administration of the scheme,
all records are computerised on a database maintained by the Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB). All training providers are recommended
by an industry client and are subject to review by the local CCNSG safety group and the national CCNSG. The training courses are delivered using common training materials approved by the CCNSG and tutors
must be approved and registered. The high level of quality control includes auditing by an independent auditor and training
costs are maintained at a minimum level.
