ILM Level 2 Team Leading Course

The ILM (Institute of Leadership and Management) Level 2 Award in Team Leading gives practising or potential team leaders the foundation for their formal development in this role.  It is an ideal programme for those in their first position as a team leader/supervisor. 

The course consists of three workshops and covers all the key skills and techniques required to make you a successful an effective team leader. The training is practical and will give you a solid foundation in your formal development as a team leader. This programme is ideal if you are a new team leader or supervisor seeking a professional qualification.

Key areas covered in the course are developing yourself as team leader; motivating the work team and dealing with change in the workplace.

ILM Qualifications are designed to improve your performance in the organisation through their strong focus on your specific job role. Upon successful completion of the three-day programme, participants will be awarded the ILM Level 2 Award in Team Leading.

Workshop 1: Developing yourself as a team leader

  • The roles, functions and responsibilities of a team leader
  • Limits of authoritty and accountability
  • Personal skills and abilities for effective team leading
  • Using reflective learning skills to improve performance
  • Receiving and responding positively to feedback
  • Action planning techniques

 

Workshop 2: Motivating the work team to perform

  • Organisational employment policies (time-keeping, absenteeism, conduct, perfomance) in relation to team members' performance
  • Identifying under-performance and the extent of a team leader's authority
  • Interpersonal behaviour and its impact
  • Motivational models at work
  • Personal and organisational objectives
  • Use of feedback to optimise performance

 

Workshop 3: Dealing wth change in the workplace

  • Potential reasons for change  -  internal and external to the organisation
  • People's attitudes and responses to change at work
  • Barriers to change and how to overcome them
  • Team Leader's role in supporting and implementing change
  • Developing and maintaing group cohesion
  • Group identity and culture, value systems, individual personalities
  • Congruence of change within organisation's culture, values and goals
  • Potential causes of conflict
  • The impact of conflict on team effectiveness
  • Ways of preventing conflict
  • Ways of handling conflict effectively if it arises

 

How is the ILM Level 2 Award in Team Leading Assessed?

The course requires delegates to complete reflective reviews for each unit. These are to be completed in the delegates' own time and submitted for marking.
