The new Working at Heights legislation which came into effect in 2005 places certain responsibilities on employers. The primary objective of the new legislation is to eliminate work at height where possible and where it is not possible to ensure that all work at height is performed safely and equipment has been appropriately selected, whether it is from a mobile access tower, scaffold or a ladder.
Employers must ensure that only trained and competent persons are permitted to use equipment.
The Working at Height Regulations (WAHR) requires employers and self employed to put into place arrangements for:
- Eliminating or minimising risks from work at height
- Organising and planning the work at height
- Selecting suitable equipment to perform work at height
